Awkward Ideas

I actually have quite a lot to show you lovely, loyal readers, but this will have to do to start it all off. This is a squirrel idea that I've had ever since my student days (I'm making it sound like I'm a wise old sage, whereas, infact, those halcyon student days were only two years ago...) which I just can't seem to let go, even though I've never found quite the right medium to fit it into. Children's books - the story is too mature...Older fiction - the older kids don't particularily like animal characters (except for the classics like Redwall et al)...so in my mind and sketchbooks this idea shall remain...for now. What can I say, I'm just a sucker for those tribal red squirrels and grey squirrels with swords.

I'll upload more stuff soon, and as always, thanks for looking!

Hey, I remember this! You had bits of it mocked up when you were at NewBlood a couple of years ago. I liked it then (I'm a sucker for anything Celtic-related, and my hometown just happens to be UK Red Squirrel Central -and also, who doesn;t love anthropomorphic squirrels!!!) so I'm pleased you're thinking about going back to it.

I'm glad to see you're doing so well. I've just graduated with my illustration degree, so it's nice to see other artists I admire still going with it as I try to figure out what to do with my life.

All the best!

Michelle!
How very kind of you to say, thanks a lot! Yeah, I'm totally determined to do SOMETHING with this idea, but when and how, only time will tell, haha. All celtic stuff is great, the look and feel of it just gives a certified seal of cool.

Well done on graduation, have you got any plans or ideas where you're going to go from here? Do you have anywhere I can check out your work? Keep at the illustration, it's always an up-hill struggle but totally worth it with perseverence!!

Thanks again, and good luck!

Plans? Ha! Who needs plans?! :P Actually I do have one, although it mostly involves finding some kind of regular job to pay the bills (anything except telemarketing, which would kill me), and then I can have evenings and weekends for drawing. There's a few projects left over from my degree that I didn't get the chance to tackle so I want to try those, some animations I want to do too. I guess the fact of the matter is that I love drawing and I'll do it forever, so although I know I've got a lot to learn I have to keep it up if I ever want anything to come of it. So yes to illustration, but it's a longer term goal.

I've started a blog over at http://www.worldisoutthere.blogspot.com/ It's a pile of everything at the moment as right now there is a new house (therefore DIY) and jobhunting and lots of other stuff going on, but hopefully I'll start getting it down to more inspiration & illustration stuff when things settle down and I get into some 'proper' projects.
